W.D. Wash. Standing Order — 08/02/2024 GO 11-24 re: Relocation of Court

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT 8 WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON 9 10 11 ORDER REGARDING RELOCATION OF GENERAL ORDER 11-24 COURT 12 13 14 15 16 On December 14, 2023, the Court found there was an immediate need to move court 17 operations from the Bellingham courthouse for the United States District Court for the Western 18 District of Washington because of sustained water damage due to rain. Pursuant to subsection 19 (a) of the Special Sessions Act, 28 U.S.C. § 141, the Court ordered that beginning January 2, 20 2024, and until further order of the Court, special sessions of the district court would be held at 21 the Skagit County Community Justice Center, 201 Suzanne Lane, Mount Vernon, Washington 22 98273. 23 24 -1 1 On July 30, 2024, President Biden signed into law S.227, the Improving Access to Our 2 Courts Act. Codified as Public Law 118-73, the Act amends 28 U.S.C. § 128(b) to permit court 3 proceedings for the Western District of Washington to be held in Mount Vernon. Because the 4 new law authorizes proceedings to be held in Mount Vernon, the Court’s previous general order 5 authorizing special sessions of the Court in Mount Vernon is no longer necessary. Effective 6 immediately, General Order 13-23 is rescinded. 7 8 IT IS SO ORDERED. 9 Dated this 2nd day of August, 2024. 10 11 A David G.
