Assignment of Civil Cases to Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler

D. Utah Standing Order — Assignment of Civil Cases to Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler

FILED 2018 NOV 30 IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT CLERK FOR THE DISTRICT OF UTAH U.S. DISTRICT COURT GENERALORDER19-Q.1Q IN RE: ASSIGNMENT OF CIVIL CASES TO MAGISTRATE JUDGE PAUL KOHLER Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler is appointed to serve at his duty station in St. George as a part-time magistrate judge. He is a member of the Utah State Bar. Magistrate Judge Dustin Pead has regularly traveled to St. George, a distance of 300 miles one way, to handle civil cases on consent of the parties. This service has been necessary because the predecessor part-time magistrate judge in St. George did not handle civil cases on referral or consent. The distance between St. George and Salt Lake City means that a full-time magistrate judge is not reasonably available to exercise civil consent jurisdiction in St. George. Substantial savings will accrue by authorizing Judge Kohler, under 28 U.S.C. § 636(c)(l), to exercise civil consent jurisdiction. THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler may exercise jurisdiction in civil cases on consent of the parties. 21"'\th. It is SO ORDERED this _JJ_ day ofNovember 2018. BY THE COURT: ~~ Clark Waddoups, District Judge David Nuffer, District Judge David Sam, Senior Judge
