UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT 2020 APR 22 PM fO: r 9
SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF OHIO
In Re:
TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE GENERAL ORDER 20-12
POTTER STEWART COURTHOUSE
The Court was informed by the General Services Administration that a Physical Security
Officer ("PSO") employed by the Federal Protective Service, who had responsibilities for the
Potter Stewart Courthouse, has tested positive for COVID-19. The PSO last worked in the Potter
Stewart Courthouse during the morning shift of Sunday, April 19, 2020. The PSO became
symptomatic Sunday evening and was later diagnosed as positive. It is further understood that his
duties included, but were not limited to, that of a rover, indicating that he had responsibility for all
of the public areas in the Potter Stewart Courthouse, including all floors, the CSO stations, the
guard shack, and the snack bar. In effect, the PSO's responsibilities were such that he could have
come into contact with Court employees throughout the Courthouse.
In order to ensure the health and safety of the judicial officers, Court and agency staff, and
to prevent possible exposure to the COVID-19 virus, and the spread of said disease, it is hereby
ORDERED that the Potter Stewart Courthouse is hereby closed pending further Order of
this Court. The Clerk of Court is hereby directed to work with all potentially affected employees
to ensure their ongoing health and safety and to try to maintain continuity of operations remotely
while the Courthouse remains closed. The Clerk is further directed to work with the General
Services Administration and other federal agencies with operations in the building to consider
future steps, including determining when it is safe to reoccupy the building.
IT IS SO ORDERED.
