The Governor of the State of Nevada has 12 declared a public health emergency throughout the state in response to the spread of COVID- 13 19 in Nevada, and the President has declared a national emergency. The Court has weighed 14 the right of the public to open access to the court against the need to protect the safety of the 15 public, including the health of all those entering and working in the courthouses. 16 The Court therefore orders, effective immediately, that the following persons are not 17 permitted to enter the United States District Court for the District of Nevada: 18 • Persons who have been diagnosed with COVID-19; 19 • Persons who reside with, or have had contact with, someone who has been diagnosed 20 with COVID-19 within the last 14 days; 21 • Persons who, because of COVID-19, have been asked to self-quarantine by any doctor, 22 hospital, or health agency; and 23 • Persons with apparent symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, severe cough, or 24 shortness of breath. 25 /// 26 /// 1 If you have a scheduled appointment or you are otherwise required to appear at the 2 courthouse, and you are unable to appear because of the restrictions listed above, you may be 3 able to appear by telephone or video conference. Therefore, you should proceed as follows: 4 • If you are represented by an attorney, please contact your attorney; 5 • If you are an attorney or a pro se litigant and you are scheduled to appear in court before 6 a judge, please contact that judge’s courtroom administrator (see the Court website at 7 https://www.nvd.uscourts.gov/court-information/judges/ and the information listed under 8 the name of the pertinent judge); 9 • If you are a juror or prospective juror (including a grand juror), please contact the Jury 10 Department: for Las Vegas, please call (702) 464-5600, option #0.; for Reno, please call 11 (775) 686-5847, option #0; 12 • If you are on pretrial release, supervised release, or probation, please contact your 13 supervising officer; 14 • For all other matters or questions related to the U.S. District Court, please contact the 15 Clerk’s Office in Las Vegas at (702) 464-5453, or the Clerk’s Office in Reno at (775) 686- 16 5611; 17 • If you are visiting other tenants located within the federal buildings containing the District 18 of Nevada’s courthouses, please contact them based on the information you have, or 19 refer to their websites. 20 This order may not be used as an excuse to avoid scheduled court appearances or meetings 21 with United States Probation or United States Pretrial Services officers. Accordingly, you may 22 be required to provide appropriate documentation to verify any unexcused absence in 23 connection with this order. 24 /// 25 /// 26 /// 27 /// 2 1 These restrictions apply to anyone entering the courthouse, including employees, and will 2 remain in place temporarily—until the Court determines it is safe to remove them. 3 IT IS SO ORDERED. 4 DATED THIS 13th day of March 2020. 5 6 _________________________ MIRANDA M.
