W.D. Mich. Admin. Order 23-CA-041

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT WESTERN DISTRICT OF MICHIGAN IN THE MATTER OF REASSIGNMENT OF CASE NO. 1:21-cr-0167 Administrative Order No. 23-CA-041 ____________________________/ On November 12, 2012, the Honorable Paul L. Maloney sentenced Mr. Palm to 188 months’ incarceration in United States v. William James Palm, Case No. 1:12-cr-0041. Mr. Palm was released from prison and began his four-year term of supervised release on February 5, 2019. On June 10, 2021, the Probation Department filed a petition for revocation of supervised release, based on allegations that Mr. Palm committed several state offenses on May 23, 2021, including possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. (Case No. 1:12-cr-0041, ECF No. 70). On September 14, 2021, a grand jury returned an indictment against Mr. Palm, charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition on May 23, 2021. The firearm and ammunition are the same as those that form the basis of the alleged supervised release violations. The pending criminal case was assigned to the Honorable Jane M. Beckering. (See Notice, Case No. 1:21-cr-0167, ECF No. 6). The pending criminal case is considered a related case to the supervised release case under Local Rule 56.4(b)(iii)(A)(4). Pursuant to that rule, the pending case should be assigned to Judge Maloney. Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that, with the consent of both Judges Beckering and Maloney, Case No. 1:21-cr-0167 shall be reassigned to the Honorable Paul L. Maloney. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that another case shall be assigned to the Honorable Jane M. Beckering, according to the approved procedure. A copy of this Administrative Order shall be filed in each case referenced herein. FOR THE COURT: Dated: April 7, 2023 HALA Y. JARBOU CHIEF UNITED STATES DISTRICT JUDGE
