WHEREAS, Case No. 1:25-cv-773, Best v. Thompson, et al., is currently assigned to the
Hon. Paul L. Maloney, and Case No. 1:26-cv-767, Best v. Lansing Community College, et al., is
currently assigned to the Hon. Jane M. Beckering;
WHEREAS, Magistrate Judge Maarten Vermaat has found that the matters are potentially
cognate cases under W.D. Mich. LCivR 3.3.2(c)(i); and
WHEREAS, Judges Maloney and Beckering have consented to the reassignment and the
Court being mindful of the need for the exercise of judicial economy:
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the Clerk of Court shall reassign Case No. 1:26-cv-767
to Judge Maloney.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Magistrate Judge Maarten Vermaat shall be the
assigned magistrate judge in Case No. 1:26-cv-767.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that another case shall be assigned to Judge Beckering
according to the approved procedure.
A copy of this Administrative Order shall be filed in the cases referenced herein.
